Since its inception as a country of its own, the United States of America has been one of the most active, strategic and dominant members of the international community. Accounting for 5% of the world's population, the US is a leader in many crucial industries for the world's development as well as a blueprint for what a formidable and effective political system should be or represent. Therefore, it's no surprise the nation has such influence.
Since World War II, the US has given out trillions of dollars to allies and its industries account for significant numbers in international production. Additionally, the rapid growth of media and trends established in the US has resettled in the rest of the world, experts attribute it to the country having a broad market and the means to advertise their services. Still, is it really positive that the international community is so dependent on the US? It is the job of the Conference on Trade and Development to analyze with countries affected by this phenomenon a way to find a middle ground.
